How It All Began

The history of V2V pertains directly to the development of volunteering programs in Brazil in the last 20 years. It all began with the Volunteer Portal, created in 2001 as part of the Solidary Community program together with IBM and Rede Globo.

The project quickly got consolidated as the greatest volunteering portal in Portuguese language and companies started to use it as support to their Business Volunteering Programs. Finally, in 2003, inspired by the network logic, there was the creation of the V2V (Volunteer to Volunteer) platform. The technology became a global benchmark and V2V became stronger in Brazil, besides obtaining acknowledgement abroad.

In 2007, V2V opened an operation in Seattle, USA, in order to develop a volunteering network for Starbucks Coffee. In 2010, when it already served major companies with solid volunteering programs, V2V changed from an NGO to an official company, which gave it greater extent and mobility.

In 2013, the platform was translated into both English and Spanish, which connected volunteers in more than 25 countries. In order to turn the organization’s international expansion easier, in 2016 V2V opened an office in Miami, USA.

In 2018, the V2V platform became mobile-first, which enabled a much closer contact with the volunteers through their smartphones. In this same year, both the Federal Government and PNUD selected it to be the official platform of Viva Voluntário, the National Volunteering Program.
