Description
It all becomes clearer when you help: Part II…This action is the second part where we will be taking the glasses that have been collecting in the Central Florida Starbucks stores (and elsewhere) to the coffee farmers in Costa Rica. For those that participated in Part I, you should know we collected well over 1000 pairs of glasses. Lee and I sorted through them over the weekend unfortunately having to throw out the broken, scratched, or really old looking ones. We will be donating them to the Lions Club. Tomorrow Lee will be connecting with a local doctor representing Medical Ministry International (MMI) and work through the process of “checking” the glasses prescription. They will be cataloged and bundled for transport to Costa Rica. We leave this Friday. I have been connecting with several great partners in Costa Rica, primarily Carlos Rodriguez and Johanna Piedro Campo. They both work with the Starbucks Agronomy Support Center (the Coops) in Naranjo and Tarrazu. The plan will be for us to assist the doctors in giving farmers eye exams, provide prescriptions for glasses, and give them a pair of glasses we collected. The goal is to serve 100 to 150 patients a day! Additionally, through the partnership with MMI doctors, there is hope to perform several eye surgeries for the most needy. Follow along…I will try and keep you posted here on V2V! As we think about Howard’s Transformational Agenda and his encouragement for us to “Expand our global presence while making each store the heart of the local neighborhood”, I can’t help but think what a great way to share our appreciation for the coffee farmers, who make such an impact on our lives, by giving back and involving our customers in the process. "You can't do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth" (Shira Tehrani) Thanks for all you do. Geoff
