Description
Start here to begin building your community service project!
If you are interested in building a community service project but aren't sure where to begin, this action is for you! Below, you will find a step-by-step process for starting your community service project. Be sure to use the 'conversation' functionality to chime in with questions, tips for starting a project and best practices from successful projects you've led in the past.
Steps to Building Your Community Service Project:
1. Get Inspired! Find out what other people are doing by browsing the action gallery.
2. Focus on Your Passion! Think about what you are passionate about. Do you love animals? Environment? Children? Literacy? Focusing on one passion will focus your project.
3. Match Passion with Need. Ask yourself: “What does my community need?” If you are passionate about animals, ask local animal shelters how you can be of service to them. The community service projects that add the most value are ones that truly fill a need or vacancy.
4. Big or Small? Will your action be nation-wide, global or local to your community? Do you plan to have hundreds of volunteers or just a few people? The size and reach of your project is important because you'll want to ensure participation of everyone who is interested.
5. Apply for Support from Make-Your-Mark (if applicable). If you are an active Starbucks partner in the U.S. or Canada, please visit http://lifeat.sbux.com/ and go to the "Giving Back" section to review the program's guidelines. If you believe it's a fit, submit an evaluation once your project has been completed. *Proposals no longer need to be submitted prior to your event.
6. Post a flyer. Use your community board to build awareness in your store, click (here)
