Description
Choose To Give is an amazing program offered to Starbucks employees. Your donation in any amount to a non profit organization will be matched by Starbucks. Below is a non profit organization that has joined in on the fight for persons living with HIV/AIDS.
The mission of the ADAP Advocacy Association (aaa+) is to promote and enhance the AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) and improve access to care for persons living with HIV/AIDS. aaa+ works with advocates, community, health care, government, patients, pharmaceutical companies and other stakeholders to assure that access to services recognize and afford persons living with HIV/AIDS to enjoy a healthy life.
ADAPs are authorized under Title II of the “Ryan White” Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act, which is the nation’s only comprehensive AIDS legislation aimed at assisting those living with HIV/AIDS. Approximately $2 billion dollars annually goes toward comprehensive care programs, including health care, support services and drug assistance programs. Most of the funding is made available for ADAPs to provide HAART therapy, purchase health insurance for eligible clients, as well as other drug treatment services.
To help educate policy-makers, news media and the general public, we have launched a national campaign designed to highlight ongoing domestic challenges facing persons living with HIV/AIDS in America and surrounding territories.
The “Access to Care Domestic HIV/AIDS Initiative” will focus on numerous emerging challenges, including:
the ongoing health care crisis in Puerto Rico that is putting the lives of residents of this U.S. Territory at risk for opportunistic infections, AIDS-related health complications and even death;
the perpetual ADAP federal funding shortfalls that have resulted in years of waiting lists for live-saving anti-HIV medications;
the growing media fatigue on domestic AIDS issues; and
the increasing domestic HIV incidence rates and HIV infection rates, especially among women, communities of color and other under-served populations.
Additional information about aaa+ and our campaign can be obtained online at http://www.adapadvocacyassociation.org.
